Huge comeback for Obama in CA

Sunday, February 3rd, 2008

He was down double-digits just a few weeks ago. Now Rasmussen has him leading in California.

I’ve encouraged my Democratic friends to vote Obama. He’s further left than Hillary, but not as corrupt or vindictive.

Cranky old McCain is not going to look good against young, fresh, energetic Obama though. Dole vs. Clinton all over again.

The temperament and judgment of a President

Sunday, February 3rd, 2008

Lest we forget, from the 2000 campaign:

“I hate the gooks,” McCain said yesterday in response to a question from reporters aboard his campaign bus. “I will hate them as long as I live.”

Being tortured by Vietnamese prison guards is no excuse to use a racial slur that is wildly offensive to most Asians. George Allen’s express train to the Presidency was derailed by saying “Macaca,” and no one even knows what the hell “Macaca” means. But then there’s one standard for the New York Times’ McDreamy, and one standard for everybody else.

US Senate Candidate Murray Sabrin Rocks Bergen County

Sunday, February 3rd, 2008

New Jersey US Senate GOP candidate Murray Sabrin gave a speech today to a rousing ovation by the crowd at theBergen County Republican Headquarters. You can’t go wrong with this platform:

“I’ve been working on this message of free markets, limited Government, less regulation, strong families and peace through strength with our National Defense. And that’s what I offer to the people of New Jersey, to having a Government that follows the Constitution.”

Murray Sabrin is the only candidate that can defeat Frank Lautenberg in November, and return a seat back over to the Republican side.

McCain: “It Could Be Over On Tuesday”

Saturday, February 2nd, 2008

A confident John McCain stated today that the GOP Presidential nominating process could be over as soon as Tuesday with himself emerging as the victor:

(CNN) – Republican John McCain said Friday that Super Tuesday could mark the finish line of his party’s presidential race this year. “From what we see in the polls, there is a very good chance it could be over on Tuesday,” said the Arizona senator

And after this process is completed, what is the first order of business?

“The sooner we get that done, the sooner I can go to work on uniting the party.” Despite his complicated history with the party’s base, he said, pragmatic Republicans will back him when faced with the Democratic alternative.

With you yourself to blame for much of the angst and bad feelings. By the way, how’s that for a reason he stated to back him; because the alternative is a Democrat.

Just in case, McCain has asked for some “special help” on Tuesday:

“Do I think the race will be over on Tuesday? Not often do I ask for divine intercession, but I have asked for that.

Does anyone know if that is in violation of his own McCain-Feingold campaign reform law?

Ron Paul votin’ man

Saturday, February 2nd, 2008

If you’re not familiar with the excellent Neil Diamond song Solitary Man (covered by others including Johnny Cash and Chris Isaac), this probably won’t amuse you.

Here’s asong parody wherein I express my frustration with the recent crop of Republican candidates.

Condi was mine
Til the time
That I found her
Holding Kofi
She don’t know me

Then Fred came along
He was strong
That’s what I thought
Me and Fred
Now he’s dead

Don’t know that I will
But until
I can find me
A conservative true
Who won’t do
McCain-Feingold
I’ll be what I am
Ron Paul votin’ man

I’ve had it to here
Bein’ where
Freedom’s a small word
The Constitution just
Inconvenient dust

I know it’s been done
Having won
Back in ‘80
Reagan knew
Jefferson too

Don’t know that I will
But until
I can find me
A conservative true
Who won’t do
McCain-Feingold
I’ll be what I am
Ron Paul votin’ man

Berkeley to Marines: GET OUT OF OUR CITY!

Friday, February 1st, 2008

The Communist City Council of Berkeley, California passed a disgusting, anti-American, anti-Military resolution telling the US Marines at a local recruiting station that they are NOT welcome and should leave, and if they don’t they are “UNWELCOME INTRUDERS”:

Hey-hey, ho-ho, the Marines in Berkeley have got to go.

That’s the message from the Berkeley City Council, which voted 6-3 Tuesday night to tell the U.S. Marines that its Shattuck Avenue recruiting station “is not welcome in the city, and if recruiters choose to stay, they do so as uninvited and unwelcome intruders.”

But wait, it gets worse if you can believe it. They also passed a resolution ALLOWING and advocating Code Pink to HARASS the Marines until they do leave:

In addition, the council voted to explore enforcing its law prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation against the Marines because of the military’s don’t ask, don’t tell policy. And it officially encouraged the women’s peace group Code Pink to impede the work of the Marines in the city by protesting in front of the station.

In a separate item, the council voted 8-1 to give Code Pink a designated parking space in front of the recruiting station once a week for six months and a free sound permit for protesting once a week from noon to 4 p.m.

The pathetic little man, Mayor Tom Bates was pleased with the events of the evening:

“I believe in the Code Pink cause. The Marines don’t belong here, they shouldn’t have come here, and they should leave,” said Berkeley Mayor Tom Bates after votes were cast.

This is a disgrace to allow the free speech of anti-American’s like Code Pink and toss out of the town a Military recruiting station.

Pssst, Ron Paul is Still in the Race

Friday, February 1st, 2008

You wouldn’t know it if you watched the GOP debate the other night from California, as he hardly had the chance to talk, but Congressman Ron Paul is still in the race for the GOP Presidential nomination.

It’s pretty much a given that things have not worked out his way and he will not be the nominee, however, regardless of that, he can still be a force to reckon with as he appears to be very strong in tomorrow’s Maine caucus. A win there, and those delegates put him in third overall for the delegate count, and above Huckabee:

AUGUSTA, Maine - Republican presidential hopeful Ron Paul has a couple of things going for him at this weekend’s Republican caucuses: a band of highly motivated supporters and a natural appeal to Maine’s like-minded independents.

His stop in the state earlier this week also made him the only presidential contender from either party to visit before the caucuses.

“I think that (because) he’s paid attention to Maine, he’ll be rewarded,” R. Kenneth Lindell, Paul’s campaign coordinator in Maine, said Thursday.

That being said, what does a win in a state that no one is even talking about do for him before Super Duper Tuesday:

Maine’s GOP polling Friday, Saturday and Sunday may be the Texas congressman’s best shot at winning a state, and such a feat would be big coming just days before next week’s Super Tuesday presidential preference contests in more than 20 states.

Lindell wouldn’t get into specifics about the number of volunteers Paul has in the state, except to say they number in the hundreds – not a small figure considering Maine’s relatively small population and meager share of the national delegate pool.

In this winner takes all state, all 21 delegates could be Paul’s for taking, IF he meets the expectations here. With the possibility of a brokered convention come September, having a nice chunk of them in your pocket, makes you a very valuable commodity.

Stay tuned…..

Mitt Romney Blogger Conference Call

Friday, February 1st, 2008

Mitt Romney hosted a Blogger Conference Call this morning to discuss his campaign and Super Tuesday on February 5th. This is the first one that he himself attended that I can recall, and Ican’t even remember if the campaign itself has engaged the blogosphere in this fashion lately.

He was very upbeat, still had his sense of humor and wit about him, and he was realistic while being optimistic about Tuesday at the same time.

He talked about how this primary is for the heart and soul of the Republican Party, comparing it to 1976 when the insider Gerald Ford was able to beat the outsider, conservative Ronald Reagan, to then go on and lose the election.

Mitt spent some time discussing how the McCain “false claim” about Romney wanting a timetable to withdraw the troops has been thoroughly refuted but almost all media outlets. He touted his most recent endorsements by Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham and others, pointing out that Conservative talk-radio is rallying behind him.

Romney also pointed out the long list of McCain-(Insert Democrat Name Here) bills that have been a disaster and McCain’s record of voting like a Democrat. He also mentioned that having McCain face either Clinton or Obama, he would be viewed as the candidate of the past, and insider with a litany of failed policies instead of hope and optimism for the future with Romney as the nominee.
